Ashesi's permanent campus

Conceptual sketch of the Ashesi's future campus
(Rendered by Patricia Fontana-Narell)

Ashesi's permanent campus will be located in the village of Berekuso (bray-koo-soo), on the hills of the Akuapim mountain range some 40 minutes north of Accra. This setting offers reasonable access to Accra, a temperate climate, impressive landscapes, and an environment conducive to creating an academically intense, yet cohesive and harmonious community.

Work to prepare this site is ongoing, and we plan to transition to the Berekuso campus within the first few years of our operations. Initially, the campus will feature capacity for 100 students in each entering class. Over time, we will build residential facilities to provide on-campus housing for all students. A residential school will help foster a community in which students of different ethnicity and gender interact equally with each other, discover their similarities, and learn to respect their differences.

Architectural design for Ashesi's campus derives from Ghanaian vernacular architecture, and borrows from both the formal characteristics of southern villages as well as the special qualities of northern Ghanaian settlements. The design creates an environment that encourages social interaction and cooperation, and fosters a sense of community throughout the college.
