Supporting Academic Life

Our cutting edge programs in business management, computer science and management information systems are based on a liberal arts core, and stress adapting technology to African challenges and opportunities.  In order to provide a relevant and high quality educational experience the university seeks philanthropic investments in technology, books and faculty support (e.g., faculty collaboration, funding to support visiting faculty housing, etc.)

To support academic life at Ashesi, please contact us at foundation@ashesi.org.  We list a few of our needs below.

Visiting Faculty Support

Ashesi University is the first private university in Ghana to be approved for participation in the Fulbright Program, by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States of America.  Fulbright scholars add to the academic excellence of the university.

A gift of $25,000 enables the university to meet its obligation to provide housing near campus for visiting Fulbright Scholars.

Partnerships

The faculty - student interaction is central to Ashesi's mission, and our ability to attract and grow excellent faculty makes a big impact on the quality of this interaction.

Ashesi university seeks partnerships and research funding that enhance teaching and learning.

Example of successful collaborations include:

(1) Research training conducted in partnership with the Institutive of development Studies at the University of Sussex (funded by the British Council)

(2) Development of a Robotics course in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University

(3) Development of a mobile phone programming course in partnership with Nokia.

(4) Visiting professorships in courses taught at Ashesi

Technology Needs

In surveys distributed to the Ashesi student body year after year, one of the key reasons for choosing Ashesi over other schools is our "state of the art technology."  This highlights the importance of technology to our academic program.  Students use computers to complete classroom assignments, run virtual experiments and access our electronic library of over 20,000 academic journals. With a growing student body, we need continuous expansion of the university's technology infrastructure. Some immediate needs include:

  • Three (3) Black & White laser network printers
  • Two (2) Microsoft Exchange Server Enterprise Edition plus 150 user licenses
  • Laptops capable of running Windows XP or Windows Vista for off-campus studying
