Tae Kwon Do
By Dodzi Anku, Class of 2006
Guess who took over the role as Tae Kwon Do instructor from David Komla Dzunu? Not a tall muscular male, but rather a slender young lady, by the name of Dodzi Anku, that's right a girl. I obtained a first Dan black belt in Tae Kwon Do after completing four years of Martial Arts training.

Many of the members of the Tae Kwon Do club were skeptical about my level of ability as their new instructor. After a few lessons people started to realize that I was capable of executing instructions and conducting classes. One student, Kofi Ocloo, described the lessons by saying "I think we've learned more in this class than in the one we had last year because, our instructor instills a greater sense of discipline in us, so more gets done during lessons". The lessons take place twice a week and the students are currently learning basic self-defense blocks, positions, punches and kicks. The Tae Kwon Do club is privileged to have Godwin Alifo, also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do for six years, to conduct lessons as well. He and I are actively working to obtain much needed equipment and uniforms for the club.

Ashesi's Latin Flavor
Michelle Eghan, Class of 2005
Under the instruction and tutelage of Mr. Lumo, a professional dancer, some of the students in the sophomore and freshman class have been twisting, turning, and toe-tapping to various Latin beats. Learning about salsa and the different moves associated with the dance has improved the rhythm of many of the students. Paired up in couples, Ashesi's men learn how to lead their female counterparts in the intricate system of salsa dance steps. By embracing the Latin flavor at Ashesi, the students have a chance to experience different tempos and movements that are distinctive and unique.

Salsa classes take place on Friday afternoon at 2nd Norla. Before we know it, Ashesi's students will become professional dancers themselves and will be available to teach Salsa to the class of 2007!

Something Smells Delicious!
Michelle Eghan, Class of 2005
To complement Emmy's canteen based at 3rd Norla, Frekenrol Fast Foods have joined the Ashesi community and are situated at 2nd Norla. Their mouth-watering dishes include fried rice, stir fry noodles with beef, braised rice, spring rolls, and Jollof rice. In between classes, the new canteen is packed as students and faculty members alike enjoy the scrumptious meals, relax, and indulge in witty conversations. Frekenrol Fast Foods is a welcome addition to Ashesi's community as students have a wider variety from which to choose from.
