Student Essay: Communicating
about West Africa
By Sarah Mills
Class of 2007
As
a Communications and Outreach intern at the West Africa Trade
Hub, my main aim is to publicize the activities of WATH/Accra to
a global audience through print and web-based media.
I research
and write stories on business trends and profiles for the
monthly e-newsletter which goes out in three languages: English,
French and Portuguese.
I am constantly editing and organizing the photo database as it
helps with my duty of improving the look and content of WATH/Accra’s
website. I also do interviews with entrepreneurs and update
mailing lists in an electronic database
Working
here is great! I learn something new everyday and I find myself
thinking about Africa in a more passionate way.

last month

The West
Africa Trade hub is a USAID funded project opened in January
2003. WATH builds trade capacity in the region so that
governments and the private sector can increase their trade with
the rest of the world through the African Growth and Opportunity
Act (AGOA).
WATH has
generated over US $1.8 million in exports, with US $ 4.8 million
in pending orders.
It has
prepared 100+ West African organizations to market their
products and sponsored participation in trade missions to the
US.
