Commencement 2007
Graduate
Profile: Araba Amuasi

Araba Amuasi is the first Ashesi student to graduate Summa Cum Laude; she
graduated with a cumulative GPA of 3.85. Araba majored in computer science and
excelled in all her courses. During her final semester she served as a teaching
assistant in the Human Computer Interaction Course.
Though Araba originally planned to take up a career in software development upon
graduation a community service experience has led her down a different path.
This past summer Araba spent two weeks volunteering at the Village of Hope
orphanage in Gomoa Fete and was moved by the plight of the children and the
transformative power of the educational programme they offer. Araba's
contributions were so outstanding during her time volunteering with the
orphanage that they offered her the position of Operations Manager upon
graduation. Araba decided to accept the position. She states, "I
know I will be able to have an impact and help them make the programme even
better."
Though Araba has decided not to pursue her
intended career in software engineering she does not plan on leaving computer
science behind. "I plan to introduce a computer and basic programming
curriculum to the school programme. I think programming is a very
important skill and can help teach analytical and logical thinking."
