Ashesi welcomes the Class of 2011
August,
2007
For
the past five years, Ashesi has provided young Africans with
rich academic, social, and cultural experiences. This year
Ashesi welcomed the Class of 2011.
The 2011 Class is comprised of 42% women and 58% men.
International students hail from Guinea, Nigeria, Zimbabwe,
Gambia and the Ivory Coast, and make up 5% of this
class. The number of senior secondary schools represented among
the class of 2011 is also diverse, with graduates from 45 different schools.
These young
men and women from all over Africa will for the next four years
be challenged to grow inside and outside the classrooms. In his
welcome address, the President, Dr. Patrick Awuah urged students
to stretch their mental intellect and work smart. “Life here
at Ashesi promises to be fulfilling. I look forward to a great
experience.” expressed Kwabena Annoh, a member of the Class of
2011.
In August,
Ashesi held a one week orientation for the class of 2011 that
gave its 100 members a preview of the pace of life here at
Ashesi. First year students had the opportunity to interact with
faculty, staff and continuing students through presentations and
lunch sessions. “If this is what is meant by the Ashesi
experience, I welcome it any day!” Solomon Kwofie (Class of
2011).
Ghana's President
Kufuor bestows national honour on Ashesi President
July,
2007
On Friday, July 6th, 2007, Dr. Awuah was awarded
Membership of the Order of the Volta by His Excellency,
President J. A. Kufuor of Ghana. The Order of the
Volta is one of Ghana's highest awards, given to individuals
who exemplify the ideal of service to country. Dr.
Awuah, in a brief statement to the Ashesi community, thanked
his colleagues (past and present), whose hard work and
dedication resulted in this award. Patrick Awuah
considers this recognition as a tremendous validation of
Ashesi's mission, and he expressed the hope that Ashesi
graduates would strive to act in ways that will result in
their eventual induction to the Order of the Volta.
