About Patrick Awuah, Ashesi Founder and President
Before founding Ashesi, Patrick worked as a Program Manager for Microsoft Corporation. He holds bachelor degrees in Engineering and Economics from Swarthmore College, and an MBA from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Patrick is a Fellow of the Africa Leadership Initiative of the Aspen Global Leadership Network and a member of the USAID’s Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid. He has received the Millennium Excellence Award for Educational Development and been named a Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, one of the 100 Most Creative People in Business by Fast Company magazine, and the 4th Most Respected CEO in Ghana by a survey of his peers.
About Zubair Abubakar, Ashesi ’08
Zubair is a TED fellow who passionately believes in the power of technology to promote positive change and create wealth. In 2011, he started an initiative now called Constitution for All, which today has enabled over 1,000,000 Nigerians have access to the Constitution anytime anywhere on their mobile phones. He is currently working on a mobile social gaming startup he co-founded called ChopUP. He started developing web/mobile applications as a student at the Ashesi where he graduated with a degree in computer science in 2008. In addition to designing and producing mobile apps, he also helped to build one of Nigeria’s biggest information portal, ConnectNigeria.com. Zubair is in the US to participate in the Aspen Institute’s Action Forum.
