As part of the curriculum for the Strategic Branding class, one of the projects students work on involves writing advertisement briefs for brands. “The exercise is part of the class’s goal to build student skills to be able to develop and manage brands,” according to Ebo Spio, Lecturer of the class. This year, the competition was sponsored by Ogilvy and Mather Ghana whose executives reviewed the briefs and also guided the teams in effectively presenting their pitches to potential clients.

“Enabling young people to think on their feet, see opportunities where others don’t, proactively create, own ideas and have an optimistic view of themselves and their future is powerful thing,” said Akua Owusu-Nartey, Managing Director, A, Ghana. “I’m super proud to be a returning guest sponsor for the Strategic Brand Management brief writing competition. Every year they show me that we actually have a rich talent pool in Ghana.”

The competition saw the groups pitching their briefs to their classmates and members of the Ogilvy team. Following the pitches, the best performing teams were awarded prizes while some students were recognized for their individual efforts.

The class aside it’s regular coursework hosts guests speakers, holds competitions and simulations that help students gain exposure to the professional world of branding. “We find this extremely useful for this course because it gives us the opportunity to build their skills in communication in the profession,” said Anthony Ebo Spio.
