Students Council Holds 8th Ubora Awards

December 3, 2017
La Palm Royal Beach – For the eighth year in a row, Ashesi’s Student Council (ASC) held the Ubora Awards to celebrate excellence within the community. Initiated by the ASC, the excellence awards, one of the biggest events on the school calendar, aims at inspiring members of the Ashesi community to reach for excellence in all they do.

“A planted seed is not left to grow on its own: it has to be nursed,” said Michael Amponsah, ASC President. “The community has to encourage those striving to grow, and a good way is to celebrate excellence. Ubora creates a good platform for students to be the lead in collectively appreciating and encouraging excellence in our community.”

The categories of awards presented at each Ubora Awards represent all the aspects of student, faculty and staff life at Ashesi. The awards essentially capture the three pillars of Ashesi; Leadership, Citizenship and Scholarship.

Speaking at ceremony was Princess Naa Asie Ocansey, renowned Ghanaian philanthropist. In her address, she expressed the importance of ethics and integrity within our society. “Ethical leadership is the single commodity that will unlock the treasures of this continent,” she said. “We need leaders who are going to surround themselves with the right people and create a positive movement, starting from the youth.”

We congratulate all the award-winners, and we celebrate them for inspiring the entire Ashesi community.
