In April, Patrick Awuah traveled to California to speak about Ashesi at the Stanford University Africa Business Forum, Google’s re:Work event, The World Affairs Council, and other events in the Bay Area. The weeklong visit introduced new organizations and individuals to Ashesi’s work, and provided supporters exciting updates on current initiatives on campus, including our new green tech incubator and engineering program.

While in San Francisco, Ashesi hosted a Jeffersonian dinner (pictured above), an event in which a small group considers four questions over dinner and conversation. For Ashesi’s Jeffersonian Dinner, 16 participants came together to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing innovation in Africa. Guests included influencers from education, business, philanthropy and government.

Patrick also spoke at the Google re:Work event, which gathered leaders from across industries and across the globe to talk about the future of work. For his part, Patrick spoke on building Ashesi, the first liberal arts college in Ghana (video below).

The trip concluded with a community-wide celebration hosted by Patrick and Ashesi Foundation Trustees in downtown San Francisco. Over 50 attendees gathered to hear about Ashesi’s latest initiatives.

To everyone who took the time to engage with Ashesi on this trip – thank you!
