Electrical & Electronic Engineering
Class of 2022
Jim Ovia Foundation Leaders Scholarship
I am Dorcas Osei, a Ghanaian by birth and I come from Pakyi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
I belong to a family of five members consisting of my parents and my two siblings. I am the only daughter of my parents. I had my primary education at St. George’s International School and Mount Olivet School. I further went to Wesley Girl’s High School.
Since arriving at Ashesi a few weeks ago, I have had a lot of excellent experiences. All these experiences would not have become a reality without the Jim Ovia Foundation Leaders Scholarship. I am eternally grateful to the stakeholders for the opportunity. I promise to do my very best to make this sponsorship worth it.
“I see myself becoming a female influencer in Ghanaian engineering, opening doors
for future generations of women to excel in the field.”
I chose to study at Ashesi because I had heard from individuals who had interactions with the school that students are trained in a balanced way where they are equipped both practically and theoretically. But looking at the hailed government universities in Ghana, little emphasis is put on the hands-on aspect of learning due to their lack of facilities.
I plan to study Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Ashesi University.
After graduating, within the next seven to ten years, I see myself becoming a female influencer in Ghanaian engineering, opening doors for future generations of women to excel in the field.
