Emi-Beth Quantson: The power of small beginnings

In a new interview with Pulse Ghana, alumna Emi-Beth Quantson, shares the triumphs and challenges of growing her small coffee business, Kawa Moka, in Ghana.

Emi-Beth conceptualized and launched the business as her final year entrepreneurship project at Ashesi. “Starting the business was very random, actually. There was a gazebo in a beautiful garden in the then Labone campus of Ashesi. I saw a great opportunity to turn it into a nice place on campus where the population could come in for cool refreshments, snooker,  and generally a nice place to chill out” says Emi-Beth in the video interview.

Today, the thriving business has evolved into a social enterprise, that employees female victims of abuse and young women transitioning from high school to college. Emi-Beth has received several entrepreneurship awards in recognition of her entrepreneurial spirit and looks forward to Kawa Moka’s continued growth.

“The future is bright for Kawa Moka, we are looking to expand to other locations. We are also looking to train our women to be managers of the locations. This will ensure that their lot improve just as the business improves.”
