With only a few weeks to the start of Ashesi’s new engineering program, the construction team that has been working on a new set of student dorms on campus handed over keys to university management. The new 96-bed dormitory will help ease demand for housing on campus and will bring total housing capacity at Ashesi to 396 students.
The new dorms were funded through $1.05 million in low-interest loans, together with philanthropy, from seven individuals and foundations, received in May 2014.
“For Ashesi to successfully engage students’ ethics and attitudes, to foster community within our diverse student body, and encourage a willingness to take responsibility and to lead – we must have more on-campus living and gathering spaces,” said Dr. Patrick Awuah, Ashesi’s President.
With student input and lessons from previous housing architecture, the new dorms feature more student hangout spaces, more room for collaborative work and will provide options for two or four students in a room.
