Cynthia Guanfo ’18

Cynthia Guanfo ’18 is currently in her final year at Ashesi and pursuing a degree in Computer Science. Although her major is in STEM, she enjoys exploring other fields and some of her favorite classes include Social Theory, Comparative Religion, and African Literature and Film. Cynthia is committed to maintaining her academic standing while not compromising her social life, and she has had the opportunity to participate in exciting extracurricular activities including the Applied Maths and Research Experience, or AMRE, at the College of Wooster. According to Cynthia, this two-month summer internship has been her best experience so far at Ashesi. She worked as a Consulting Analyst for Progressive Insurance and had the opportunity to apply her education to solving real-world issues. “Because of the different cultural exposure I had in AMRE and have at Ashesi, I am now a more social person,” said Cynthia. “I have become much more excited about learning different cultural behaviors that vary from what I am exposed to.”

Cynthia is currently working on her capstone project, a data mining algorithm that will hopefully mine cervical cancer image data more efficiently. As she prepares to graduate from Ashesi, she is focused on her future and is on the lookout for job opportunities or opportunities to attend graduate school.

“Once again, I want to thank you for your generosity and kindness in funding my college tuition, which has provided support and encouragement for both my family and me. I hope I have the opportunity to meet you in person one day to fully express my gratitude for investing in my future.”
