Edna Yelipoie ‘20

“Words cannot describe” how grateful Edna Yelioie ’20 is for her scholarship support from donors. “I want to say a very big thank you for catering for my needs and ensuring that my dream of majoring in Electrical Engineering here at Ashesi University becomes a reality. I appreciate all your efforts and would like to assure you that I will not let you down.”

While Edna admits her freshman year was often hectic, it was always full of excitement. “I was exposed to a lot of new things and diverse ways of learning and doing things,” she says. “One project I undertook with my peers was in a course called The Foundations of Design and Entrepreneurship. This project aimed at helping to improve the reading and writing skills of primary students. We did this by forming reading and writing clubs (ReadRight Club) in two schools in a town called Kitase.

We used video, audio and other fun and engaging tools to teach our students. We visited our students once a week to teach them, as the schools we were involved with fit us into their schedules. We also organized regular quizzes to measure the impact we had on students. Throughout this project I developed my teaching skills, learned how to cooperate and tolerate others and developed more passion for helping people in need.”

“Running this project was just one of the wonderful experiences I had throughout the academic year,” says Edna. “Once again, I am very grateful for the sponsorship donors have offered me. I am looking forward to the next academic year!”
