How did you become connected to Ashesi?
I was introduced to Patrick Awuah and Ashesi for the first time some years ago when Patrick visited the Bay Area to introduce Ashesi to a gathering of Ghanaians living in the Bay Area. I found Patrick’s presentation, explaining what motivated him to pursue the founding of Ashesi and the principles upon which education at Ashesi will be based, very inspiring and very much in line with my thinking. I couldn’t think of a better cause for me to support.
In your opinion, why is education so powerful for catalyzing opportunity?
Education, properly formulated, provides young people in their formative years and adults alike, the knowledge, tools, ability and the discipline to apply their native intelligence towards problem solving and creative endeavors in achieving the life goals they choose to pursue.
The Kofi Tawiah Good Citizenship Scholar Award will help educate Ashesi students for generations to come. What inspired you to support Ashesi in this way?
I’m a strong believer in the unavoidable truth that if Africa is going to rise and claim its rightful place at the table of the world community, Africans must develop the wherewithal and be committed to being at the forefront of the economic and social advancement of Africa. Our Mission:
We are dedicated to supporting education and educational programs that promote and cultivate the essential character traits for good citizenship in the youth and help develop future generations of good citizens in Ghana in particular and Africa as a whole.
Our Vision:
Our vision is to develop within the next two to three generations and continuing thereafter, the critical mass of good citizens that cements the fabric of a progressive, forward looking and prosperous society in Ghana in particular, and Africa as a whole.
What impact do you hope the Award will have on Ashesi students, and more broadly, within Africa?
Given the principles or core values upon which education at Ashesi is based, it is my hope and expectation that the scholarship award is the KT Foundation’s first significant act to advance its mission and vision by making it possible for a few more students who would otherwise not have the opportunity to experience education at Ashesi and emulate Ashesi’s core values in their lives.
In your opinion, what is the most important work that Ashesi does?
Educating and inculcating critical core values needed for Africa’s advancement in future generations of Africans.
