Issahaku has had a passion for studying since he enrolled in Primary Level One at five years old. He was raised in Ghana alongside his six siblings. Issahaku’s father is a retired teacher and his mother is a typist. Despite their meager income, his parents were determined to put their children through school. Growing up as the last born of his family, there were high expectations for Issahaku; he was expected to live up to his siblings’ achievements. This, however, did not place a daunting pressure on him as he was happy to make his parents proud.
Issahaku learned about Ashesi University while enrolled at Nandom Senior High School. Issahaku had always dreamt of studying at a university that prioritized training ethical leaders. He developed a passion to study Mechanical Engineering so that he could support Ghana’s industrialization and economic growth.
Through his hard work, Issahaku was among the best graduating students at his high school. He applied to Ashesi University, to which he was admitted and received a scholarship. “I was overjoyed because I realized it was an opportunity for me to realize my dreams, and at the same time alleviate the burden on my parents who still had to support the university fees of two of my siblings as well as two of my nephews,” says Issahaku.
Issahaku realized that all that he had dreamt in a university was found at Ashesi University. “I am excited by so many things the university has and feel fortunate to be a student of such a noble institution. I like how the classrooms are arranged and that each student can actively participate in class activities. I like how classes are not crowded and that each student can readily interact with their lecturers. I know that Ashesi provides the necessary conditions I need to realize my dream of making an economic impact in Ghana.”

Issahaku believes that by studying Mechanical Engineering, he will be well equipped to handle the challenges arising from further industrialization and economic growth. “The country’s economic growth is mainly restricted because it is unable to handle and operate the appropriate equipment to help the country process its numerous resources.” As a mechanical engineer, Issahaku hopes to increase the quality and availability of processed resources for export. He also wants to set an example to others to emulate determination and not to give up on their dreams. By establishing entrepreneurial businesses, Issahaku hopes to provide employment for the youth and valuable services to all Ghanaians.
