Jeff Dean, Google’s Chief Scientist, delivers guest lecture at Ashesi on machine learning

Chief Scientist at Google, Jeff Dean, heads the tech company’s efforts in artificial intelligence. As a long-time supporter of Ashesi, Jeff was on campus with a team from Google AI Ghana to speak to Engineering and Computer Science students about emerging trends in Machine Learning and AI. Using examples from his work and research at Google and from across industry, he highlighted several new breakthroughs that students and researchers could harness for problem-solving. In summary, machine learning models are becoming more capable, and able to function in more general purpose ways; are becoming increasingly more efficient, and more beneficial for personal and communal use; and are having a growing impact on Engineering, Science, Health, and Sustainability, with deeper and broader understanding of how the technology works.
